HOOPOES THERE

Every year around this time in Ireland a few exotic Hoopoe are spotted on the south coast having overshot their migration route. This year due to some high pressure there have been around fifty sightings so far, the most since the 1960s. I have yet to see one but I imagine with their bright orange heads and crests along with their zebra striped backs they are an exotic addition to the countryside making our regular crew feel a bit drab, the kind offeeling one has on the yearly influx of Spanish students who invade the country with their orange backpacks every June…
